My entire artistic research starts from a holistic perspective on life issues. Through the analysis of single phenomena I try to look at the Whole through which they are generated. The greatest challenge lies in avoiding forcing the attribution of a common meaning to different components, by wanting to find an absolute and universal explanation for each element. Nonetheless, I am truly convinced of the non-existence of chaos, except for its etymological meaning, which is closely related to ?event? or ?happening? (lat./ital. casus/caso, accadere ), a concept I believe to presuppose a prime cause.
Given this premise, I try to have a personal mark in my work, keeping if possible a logic-aesthetic connection to each piece of art. Yet, I am not too interested in a recognizable author's imprinting in the sense of a ?trade mark,? something I consider more useful to the art system than to the artists or their work. Of course, there is also a need for some interpretation clues; these can be clearer if someone is able to follow the artist's expression through different works, by virtue of the author's style and impression.
In spite of the strong hermetic component of my work as an artist, I try to make myself as understandable as possible, even though I believe my works are not necessarily mass-media products. I am not taking a stand through an elitist position, yet I ask of the observer of my work some concentration, thought and reflection. I use different media: it can be painting, calligraphy, photography, video, music or installation. The choice is related to the language which I find more useful to what I am trying to communicate at that moment. The same applies to the content; there are different topics, but each one of them is strongly interconnected. I talk about faith, sexuality, archetypes, and social awareness, filtered through my passion for history and etymology.
I consider myself a medium as well, in the sense that I feel my job is to follow the path written for me as a human being. What I mean is that, if there is pride in being an artist it is not because my work is better or worse than someone else's, but rather because I feel I am doing exactly what someone or something else intended me to. We can call this something else God, Destiny, or a Spiritual Being, but in the end it shows that I am happy with my artwork if it achieves the purpose of communicating something that lies beyond my personal expectations and wishes. It's not always easy, but that is what I try to do when I'm thinking about a new piece of art. Of course my work does not represent an objective viewpoint; even if I try to be as accurate as possible when I work, even with historical data for example, I always allow the subjective and per- sona -l part of me to freely sound my views.
